Gary is an associate counsel with Coal Harbour Law. Gary maintains a solicitor’s practice and has over 20 years’ experience in the areas of real estate, corporate/commercial and business law as well as wills and estates law.
Gary’ real estate practice includes representing clients on the purchase and sale of residential and commercial properties. His clients include real estate investors, builders and developers. Gary has assisted clients with project financing transactions, development permit applications and formation of strata corporations. Gary also represents both lenders and borrowers in private mortgage-based financing transactions. He has provided clients with advice on structuring loans and the necessary security agreements for the loans.
Gary also maintains an active corporate/commercial and business law practice. He regularly represents clients in the purchase and sale of business assets and shares. He has experience preparing various business contracts including commercial leases, management/employment agreements and non-competition agreements. He also advises clients on the structuring and incorporation of companies and preparation of shareholder agreements. This includes working with clients and their accountants in structuring their investments for tax planning purposes including drafting section 85 agreements and family trusts.
Gary’s wills & estates practice includes consulting with clients on their estate planning needs and preparing wills and applying for grants of probate and letters of administration.
Gary grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of British Columbia. Gary received his law degree from University of Saskatchewan in 1995 and called to the British Columbia bar in 1996 after completing his articles with a general practice law firm in Vancouver. He also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Dalhousie University.
After his call to the bar, he worked at several general practice law firms in Vancouver focusing on solicitor’s work, gaining valuable experience working with small and medium size businesses and experience investors. He also has experience as an in-house lawyer, having worked as a corporate solicitor for a large public listed technology company and as the manager of legal services at a national quick service food franchisor in North Vancouver.
His experience in private practice includes working as an associate lawyer at a boutique securities law firm where he assisted client with public offerings, listing applications and meeting the necessary requirements under applicable securities rules and regulations.
